Working off Tentative List 1514:

1. What happened to Chinese opera? I understand that some genres with various performing arts aspects besides music have been set aside, but I find leaving a major genre like this (or, more precisely, a term currently being using to cover a number of genres) off the list troubling.
2. Perplexed as to why Dumy made the list but Byliny didn't.
3. Don't think Kolos should have Wedding music as a BT (that would be sort of like giving Waltzes Wedding music as a BT); perhaps Folk music was meant instead (and should be there in any case)?
4. Rachenitsas (Music) should get a BT Folk music as well, and possibly a UF for the LC translation from Bulgarian (Rŭchenicas)
5. Not all Tyroliennes are dance music; some are simply songs. Add BT Songs?
6. Vil pāṭṭu shouldn't have a UF Bow songs without qualification; all Vil pāṭṭu may be bow songs, but not all bow songs are Vil pāṭṭu. (KAP 12/22/14)

1. Chinese operas - you're correct that this is on the "performing arts" hold list. Hoping that PSD will look at those as a group soon.
2. Byliny - Some trouble with the literature overlap; the literature group has Byliny as a UF to Epic poetry; no decision on how to proceed with the music version yet.

You may want to submit your other comments (with citations and revision suggestions) to Janis.

1. Yes Chinese operas is on performing arts list. Don't worry too much about it; I'll get it through!
2. Careful or you may get Dumy deleted!! Byliny is currently a UF to Epic poetry on Literature list and thus a conflict (can't have a term also being a UF). But we need something specifically musical to define Byliny as a musical genre to get this anywhere but as a UF to Epics
3. This came from the 670, which has it only with weddings. If it is broader, we need a 670 that shows that. As for Folk music, well we almost completely left Dance music without these terms since it is so malleable, but potentially we could add it (though we didn't when it was discussed way back when...). But if you have a citation...
4. See above. Rachenitsas have been composed by some "art" composers. And lcgft generally is intended to have the term used in English if there is one, and rarely puts in translations, though this might be a particular one.
5. I see your point; but BT will have to be "Music". One can't have either/or BTs.
6. Okay, but that is what we decided to do at the time.

By the way, it perfectly fine to add comments here or to email me and/or Janis (and preferred...) or MLA-L as you prefer. All comments from all destinations will get where they need to go. Nancy

Just remember, Janis and I are both on vacation, so replies will be sporadically only from me till the 29th.

I'm on vacation, too, and we're closed until January 5, so I may be somewhat sporadic in my attention as well (as you can already tell!).

Nancy, I wrote my comments here because of the email I received from you dated December 16 linking to this page and directing me to "Edit or comment on Genre Form Terms for music now." But since you've indicated a preference for an email to you and/or Janis, I'll answer your response in a email (Karen).

Really, I am happy to have comments here. That was (and still is) the main preference; problem is that people haven't been able to add comments despite all our attempts to make it otherwise.
